Golden Wedding, will be a popular addition to your solo, duet, and ensemble repertoire!
This famous classical music has a strong, easily-remembered minor melody, besides being very beautiful.

As a solo, the left hand gets a workout! It isn't easy for students when they first start making giant leaps like this.
But if they understand the chords the left hand is using, and realize that left hand is walking through parts of the Am chord, the Dm chord (a kind of HYBRID chord with extra tones, in this case), and the E chord, this might be easier.
Here is just the melody, set at Middle C. For a duet, take this part up an octave:
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
And here is the secondo part to go with the melody - you may notice that it is just the same as the left hand of the solo!
But now, it is split into two hands. This is actually an excellent way to prepare for that solo left hand, above:
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
Your student may struggle with that suggested fingering.
It may not feel at all natural to start with fingers 5 and 3, shifting to 5-4-2, but they do prepare the hand well for the E chord inversion with finger 2 on the B.
Now below you will see three parts which make up THE VERY SAME MUSIC. Same thing, just split into three instead of two, or one (the solo).
This arrangement works fairly well for a keyboard class, if the reading ability is there.
Part 1 requires students to use the skills of finger replacement and crossing over. With no left hand part for them to worry about, students can focus on just this skill..
Part 2 uses chords and chord inversions around Middle C position:
Part 3 moves slowly. Those students who are shaky reading notes in bass clef will find this part a little challenging, but not intimidating, particularly as it is repetitious.
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
Try consolidating parts 2 and 3
If some of your keyboard class students find this arrangement of Golden Wedding too easy, have them combine parts!
See all the parts at once
A conductor's score is what I like to read from, and sometimes I will pass out copies of this page for my students to play from as well.
It's good practice for them to have to keep track of their part in the full score, and it helps them anticipate entrances.

Because the melody has many repeating notes, and moves step-wise, it is not too hard for students to sing the note names aloud as they play.
I like to start them singing, and after a few measures, ask them to join me as we move along reading notes.
What am I singing? Just the note names, or the beats. This also works very well for Part 3, and is good bass clef practice. I don't insist on perfection, just that they try.
In a digital keyboard class, it's fun to set the sounds for each keyboard to a different kind of instrument.

Jan 21, 2013 Although activation methods share a common goal of limiting software piracy, with Activation 3.0 an organization can use various methods to activate or associate a product's license key with the product, including the following: OEM activation, which is performed by the OEM to activate products preinstalled on the OEM hardware. May 21, 2019 The Windows activation system is designed to use the product key that is injected into the firmware of the computer during manufacturing. It automatically activates the device when the device first comes online. This operation is used daily on thousands of devices.
Part 3 can round out the sound of the ensemble with a deep, edgy kind of instrument sound such as bassoon. An all-organ selection can be powerful, too.
Golden Wedding can sound brisk and energetic, or slow and dirge-like! ('That sounded like Golden Funeral,' I sometimes tell my music students.) Experiment!

My son is hooked..I've been introducing piano to my son on and off for a year or so, but he's not had much interest. Then I gave him 'Monsters Everywhere'. He loved playing it with the organ sound on our piano. He memorized it that week and I'm printing off the other Halloween songs to keep him going. I love the detailed instructions on teaching since he is my first student! Thanks so much.
Dana:
That is so neat that your son has experienced the magic and mystery of music through this little song. That is so exciting to me! Thanks for writing, Kim!

Free printable sheet music for beginner piano students, Irish Wedding.
Now, download SEVERAL different versions of this fun, energetic, and beautiful piece!
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
With FOUR levels of difficulty, kids can learn Irish Wedding four times. It's worth it -- this piece is incredibly fun! It has something for everyone; beautiful broken chord patterns, and fast rhythmic chords on the strong beats.
The right hand moves from one 'position' to another, so the new easiest version still requires some work.
Free Printable Sheet Music For The Wedding March
The arrangement of 'Irish Wedding' played by this young man is very much like mine (but mine has more chord movement and a fancier ending, on the level 3 long version):
This easy arrangement of Irish Wedding is set in Dm position instead of Am. These are familiar notes to first and second-year piano students.
I have also simplified the rhythmic emphasis and the hand-over-hand broken chord section.
Irish Wedding still retains its character, I think, but now younger students can play it sooner. (There are also 2 easier versions - lead sheets actually - on the Note-Naming Worksheets / Piano Music with Letters page.)
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
The hardest thing about Irish Wedding is learning the melody's rhythm in the opening bars.
Music with 3 beats per measure is harder for most students than Common Time, 4/4. Writing the music in 3/4 time instead of 6/8 (which is what it feels like when it gets going fast) makes it much easier for beginners to conquer.
Two even easier versions, each just one page, can be found on my 'Note-Naming Worksheets' page (also called 'Piano Music with Letters').
They actually look more like lead sheets, with no bass clef - just chord symbols. One sheet has all alphanotes, and the other has just a few.
Below is the second-hardest arrangement of this energetic piece:
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
I like to have younger students count by the method called 'unit counting', at least initially.
Thus, the beginning of Irish Wedding goes '1, 1, 1-2, 1, 1-2, 1, 1-2, 1, 1, 1, 1..' (I hope that makes sense!) Students count it aloud. Sometimes I will have them learn just the right hand the first week, and we'll play it like a duet.
Gradually, they will be moving into what I call 'band counting.'
That's the way the band director counts, 'One-two-three-four, One-two-three-four,' so that the band can stay together.
Now, version three of Irish Wedding cannot be played until a student can reach an octave, and not just reach an octave, but stretch to play a chord-plus-a-fourth with a bit of speed (a-c-e-a).
It is a real milestone to be able to play that stretched chord, and it's not very easy.
Before I give a student page 2 of the hard version, I assign them the stretched broken chord pattern as an exercise.
Please scroll down the page for the download links.
After that part is learned, the repeat takes you back to the beginning, but up an octave for just 8 measures.
This page, page 1, sounds exactly like ALL of version 1 of free printable sheet music Irish Wedding, -- it just looks faster because it is written in 6/8 time.
On page 2, skip through the 1st ending and go right into the left hand octave jumps. Hard for many kids at first, but very fun.
The last line is perhaps the trickiest part.
The right hand goes far to the right, and the left hand far to the left -- simultaneously!
The best way I have found to teach this section is to insist kids play the right hand with their eyes closed, practicing the runs in short, fast bursts, to nail down the fingering. Then they can swoop left with their eyes on the left hand chords.
I know your students will enjoy this free printable sheet music!
